     Dr. M. Taqi Zahid Butt, graduated in Metallurgy & Materials Science Engineering, University of the Punjab in 1982 and got First Position. In 1982 he started his career as visiting lecturer at the Institute of Chemical Engineering & Technology, University of the Punjab, Lahore. In 1983 he had been engaged in a research project sponsored by Pakistan Science Foundation titled as “Studies of Underground, Atmospheric & Industrial Corrosion Processes”. After the successful completion of this project in 1984, he joined as Lecturer of Metallurgy & Materials Science in the Faculty of Engineering & Technology, University of the Punjab, Lahore. In 1986 he was awarded merit scholarship for higher studies abroad by the Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of Pakistan. In 1990 Dr. Butt completed his PhD from the Department of Materials Technology, Brunel, University of West London, England. In 1994, he was awarded post doctoral fellowship from the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission U.K. and worked in the Department of Engineering Materials, University of Sheiffled U.K. In 1997 Dr. Butt was awarded another post doctoral fellowship from the Japan International Science & Technology Exchange Center (JISTCE) programme, Govt. of Japan where he carried out research projects with Prof. Dr. T. Sano (HoD) in Plasticity & Forming Division, Mechanical Engineering Laboratory, Tsukuba,  JAPAN.
Dr. Butt achieves the status of youngest Professor ever in the history of Punjab University. At present, he is working as Professor of Production Metallurgy in the Department of Metallurgy & Materials Engineering  and  Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, University of the Punjab, Lahore PAKISTAN. He is running a number of research projects at graduate & post-graduate level. He has more than 80 publications in his credit in the Journals of National and International repute. He has been the Chairman/member of various bodies/committees of the University. He also served the University of the Punjab as CONTRLLOER OF EXAMINATIONS and Chairman, Department Electrical Engineering, University of the Punjab, Lahore. In addition to this, being senior most professor of the University, he served as acting Vice Chancellor, University of the Punjab time to time.
