Dr. Riffat Munawar holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of the Punjab, Pakistan. She started her career as lecturer at then the Department of Sociology, University of the Punjab Lahore in 1990.She played a key role in the development of the Institute of Social and Cultural studies and developed M.Sc. Programs such as Development Studies, Criminology and Population Sciences. Her research interests are Gender Based Conflict, Women’s Empowerment and Development, Migration and settlement issues, Sociology of Religion. Her teaching focuses upon Qualitative Research Methods, Demography, Criminology, Social Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology of Family, Social Work and Academic Writing. She has the experience of working with the WHO, UNICEF, World Bank, ILO and various other national and international agencies on different projects. She has presented papers at national and international conferences and seminars which have be published. She has also published in diverse areas in different peer-reviewed journals and books. She has credit of publishing a book Negotiating Political Space and co-author of a book Women’s Empowerment and Social Transformation.
