The University has two Directorates of Sports for male and female students headed by the Director Sports (Men) and Director Sports (Women).
In addition, in order to look after the sports needs of the Teaching Department students, a Sports Committee under the name of P.U. Teaching Department Sports Association (PUTDSA) exists. The Director Sports (Men) and Director Sports (Women) act as ex-officio Secretaries of Men Tournament Committee and the Women Tournament Committee respectively.
The Punjab University Men Sports Tournament Committee (PUSTC) and Punjab University Women Sports Tournament Committee (PUWSTC) consisting of the Principals of all Constituent Affiliated Colleges including the Registrar and the Treasurer of the University as ex-Officio Members/Treasurer exist to take care of Sports activities in the University at Inter-Collegiate level.
The President Committees are elected general meetings by Constituent and for a one-year term and Teaching Departments for a two-year term.
An Executive wing of the Principals of Colleges selected by of the University also functions on the Campus to assist both the Tournament Committees.
A walled area is reserved for female students in the University grounds, near the Allama Iqbal Campus and also near the girls hostels at the New Campus, which encloses facilities for indoor games in addition to a spacious swimming pool at the Old Campus.
To encourage the sportsman's spirit, and as an incentive, sports scholarships are also awarded to the players whose performance is nota¬ble in different events.
A variety of sports facilities including playing fields for cricket, hockey, football and athletics, a swimming pool for male students, squash courts and indoor game facilities in the hostels are available at the Quaid-e-Azam Campus. Playing fields for various sports and a female swimming pool are provided near the Allama Iqbal Campus. Boat Club provides recreational as well as competitive rowing facilities at the canal of the Quaid-e-Azam Campus as well as the River Ravi, in the north of the city. The sports facilities for male and female students are managed by the respective sports offices. Each year competitive sports for both male and female students are organized at inter-departmental, inter-collegiate and inter-university levels in a variety of sports like hockey , football, cricket, badminton, athletic, etc. To encourage development of sports, scholarships are awarded to the outstanding players, and winners of the sporting events are awarded prizes, trophies and medals.
