Education sector most neglected in Pakistan: VC
LAHORE: (Tuesday, July 31, 2012): Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has said that education is the most neglected sector in Pakistan which needs special attention from the government for the development and betterment of the country. Talking in a talk show at a private TV channel, Dr Mujahid Kamran stressed on the need of infrastructural development of universities as well as training of teachers which could only be provided by the government. He said that no government in Pakistan had kept education on priority in the history. He said all the developed countries are spending at least 5 percent average of GDP on education while in Pakistan it is less than 2 percent which is not sufficient for growth and even sustainability of education in the country. He expressed his concern on the education system of the country and said that our schools and colleges lacked infrastructure and trained teaching staff because of which quality education could not be imparted there. He said Pakistan needed consistency in education policies as was the case when Pakistan undertook an impossible task of building nuclear capabilities despite change of governments. He further said that presence of PhD faculty enhances students’ development and standard of institution as compared to those without PhD faculty or even less number of PhDs. |
