PU champion in women sports since 40 year, so no need to use steroids: Shamsa Hashmi


LAHORE: (Monday, July 7, 2014): Punjab University Director Sports Shamsa Hashmi has said that since the inception of University Grants Commission and Higher Education Commission, Punjab University has been undefeated and it remained overall champion in women sports so there is no need to use negative tactics of using steroids. She said that the performance of PU sports girls’ was far better than other universities’ players during the last four decades. She was addressing a press conference along with a large number of PU sports girls and sports boys at Lahore Press Club here on Monday. Addressing the press conference, she said that a female lecturer of University Law College, against which an inquiry was under process, and a specific lobby against PU administration had instigated 5 female students who had submitted a baseless application to Punjab Chief Minister and Governor Punjab. She said that Punjab University’s ranking is improving in men’s sports as well and there was a conspiracy behind this application to make these achievements disputed. She said that no player had been given steroids and none of the students had been admitted to hospital because of using steroids. She said that Punjab University administration would extend full cooperation to any agency in investigation. She said that the graph of Punjab University was improving in sports, which was difficult for opponents to digest. She said that for the first time in the history of Punjab University, PU VC Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran was providing exemplary facilities to the players including free education, free accommodation, free transportation, scholarships, free medical etc which had encouraged PU players. She said that because of over 6 to 8 months vigorous training of players under renowned coaches, PU students were outshining and this was one of the main reasons behind PU achievements. She said that the administration was regularly providing fruit, vegetables, Sardai, healthy meat, juices, MarabaJaat etc to the players. She urged the media to point out the real culprits behind the conspiracy. A university spokesman also aired audio recording of University Law College Lecturer Khujista Rehan who was threatening a sports incharge regarding an issue of a degree and Ms Rehan said that the girls would write application to the Ombudsman and thus the university officials including the Vice Chancellor, Dr Mansoor Sarwar and Shamsa Hashmi would be defamed in the press. According to the recording, Khujista Rehan said she knew very well how the law could be twisted and be used for own purpose.
