PU celebrates Tree Plantation Day - Over 35,000 trees planted in PU, says VC


LAHORE: (Tuesday, August 18, 2015): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has said that over 35,000 (thirty five thousand) trees have been planted in PU during the past seven-and-half-years under the tenure of the incumbent administration. He was speaking to participants of an inaugural ceremony held in connection with National Tree Plantation Day jointly organized by PU College of Earth and Environmental Sciences (CEES) and Rotary Club Lahore Garrison here at the lawns of college on Tuesday. CEES Principal Prof Dr Sajid Rashid, Additional Registrar Kamran Abid, senior faculty members and students were present on the occasion.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr Mujahid Kamran said that the incumbent PU administration was highly sensitive about trees as they guarantee healthy life and maintain environmental balance. He also inaugurated tree plantation campaign by planting a tree in the college’s lawns.

Later, CEES Principal Prof Dr Sajid Rashid led a rally from college to Department of Space Sciences to highlight importance of trees. He said that media should play role in creating awareness in this regard.
