Pakistan’s future linked with education: Rana Mashhood


LAHORE: (Friday, August 28, 2015): Education Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan has said that Pakistan’s future is linked with education and the government will lay foundation stone of country’s first-ever Knowledge Park in February next year to promote research and development. He was addressing a ceremony in the honor of position holder students of B.A. /B.Sc annual examination 2015 at Punjab University Al Raazi Hall here on Friday.

PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, Controller of Examinations Prof Dr Shahid Munir, senior faculty members, position holder students including Ayesha Khan, Hafsa, Fasahat Fatima, Ramla Tayyab, Azhar Ali, Ume Kalsoom, their parents and teachers were present on the occasion.

Addressing the ceremony, Mr Mashhood said that the purpose of Knowledge Park was to bridge gap between academia and industry so that the industry could benefit from the research work being carried out in the universities. He said that Pakistan’s youth was full of talent and Pakistanis were playing important role in leading scientific and research institutions of the world. He said that Pakistan’s development would strengthen Islam. He said that India was supporting terrorists to destabilize Pakistan.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr Mujahid Kamran said that Pakistan was the only nuclear power of Islamic world and it had a strong Army. He said that the average spending of the world on education was 5 percent of GDP while Pakistan was spending less than 2 percent on education. He said that the United States had the GDP of 17 trillion dollars and was spending from 850 to 1000 billion dollars on education while it was spending from 340 to 510 billion dollars on research and development. While Pakistan’s total GDP was around 250 billion dollars while it was spending around 0.2 percent on R&D. Giving details of the result, Controller Examinations Prof Dr Shahid Munir said that out of 121,658 candidates, the result of only 20 candidates was late. He said that earlier, a candidate who had failed in one subject was allowed to appear in supplementary examinations and now a candidate who had failed in two subjects would be allowed to appear in supplementary examinations.

He said that from the next year, BA/BSc examinations would be held in parts and BA/BSc Part 1 annual examination would be held. Later, degrees, shields and cash prizes of rupees one hundred thousand, 75 thousand and 50 thousand were separately distributed among 1st, 2nd and 3rd position holders of BA/BSc.
