Renowned scientist Dr Muzaffar dies at 97


LAHORE: (Wednesday, November 23, 2016): Internationally-recognized scientist and Professor Emeritus at Punjab University Department of Zoology Dr Muzzafar Ahmed has passed away. He was 97. In his condolence message, Dr Mujahid Kamran said that it was an irreparable loss to the country and the gap created due to his death could not be easily filled. He said that Dr Muzzafar Ahmed was a world-class entomologist and his work on termites was acknowledged at renowned and reputed international forums.
He said that he was considered one of the best scientists in the field of classification of termites. He said various specimens of termites sent by Dr Muzzafar were preserved in the United States. He said that Dr Muzaffar was so much committed to research work and his field that he did research till he breathed his last and he used to visit university regularly. A comprehensive research work on termites spreading over three centuries was published in the United States in 2011 and Dr Muzzafar Ahmed contributed one chapter in that publication. Dr Muzzafar’s funeral prayers would be offered near his residence at 8-A GOR 2, Mozang, Lahore.
