PU pays tribute to renowned Punjabi critic Dr Naheed Shahid
LAHORE: Punjab University has organized a ceremony to pay rich tribute to renowned critic, poet, writer and professor of Punjabi at PU Department of Punjabi late Dr Naheed Shahid, who died of cancer last month, here on Monday. PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir, Registrar Dr Muhammad Khalid Khan, Dean Faculty of Oriental Learning Prof Dr Fakhrul Haq Noori, Dr Saleem Mazhar, Dr Nabeela Rehman, Academic Staff Association President Javed Sami, Secretary Iftikhar Tarar, a large number of teachers from various departments and students were present on the occasion.
Addressing the ceremony, PU VC Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir said that Dr Naheed Shahid was a legend and it was our duty to keep memories of such great personalities alive. He said that the death of Dr Naheed Shahid was a great loss to the nation and it would take time to fulfill gap created because of his death. He said that PU had deprived of a big personality. Dr Fakhrul Haq Noori said that Dr Naheed Shahid had spent a life which would be remembered in golden words. He said that he had never seen Dr Naheed Shahid backbiting any of his colleagues or any other person and he had a neat and clean personality. Dr Saleem Mazhar said that Dr Naheed was a loving teacher, the best poet, true journalist and a humble person. He said that Dr Naheed always gave respect to elders and dealt juniors with kindness. He said that Dr Naheed was an extra-ordinary scholar and honest researcher. Dr Nabila Rehman and Ali Asghar Abbas also paid rich tribute to Dr Naheed Shahid and said he adopted education as mission. They said Dr Naheed had joined radio Pakistan and later he became teacher of Punjabi language in Government College Gujranwala. They said that later Dr Naheed Shahid served FC College Lahore and afterwards, he joined Punjab University. They said his services in the field of Punjabi literature would always be remembered.
