LAHORE (Monday, January 28, 2019): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad has said that there was need to bridge gap between engineers and mathematicians and mathematicians should come forward to resolve relevant issues being faced in engineering field. He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of first international conference on gravitation and cosmology organized by PU Department of Mathematics in collaboration with Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, Group of Gravitation and Cosmology and others at Al Raazi Hall here on Monday. National Distinguished Professor Dr Asad Qadir, Department of Mathematics Chairman Prof Dr Muhammad Sharif, renowned scientists from United Kingdom, Italy, South Korea, South Africa, Chili, Iran, Spain, Uzbekistan, researchers from various parts of country and a large number of students participated in the conference.

The conference was dedicated to renowned scientists Stephen Hawking for paying tribute to his services. Addressing the conference, Prof Niaz Ahmad said that it was a good omen that renowned scientists were participating in the conference and young researchers and students had got a great opportunity to learn from their research and experiences. He urged the participants to establish consortium and PU would provide funding for organizing such events. Dr Muhammad Sharif said that the conference had been organized to provide a platform to the participants to share knowledge and keep themselves updated in the fields of gravitation and cosmology. He said that last year, as many as 120 research papers of faculty members had been published in the impact factor journals. The conference would continue till Friday.
