PU students earn laurel at MUIMUN conference
LAHORE: (Wednesday, May 23, 2012): Punjab University’s student Muhammad Bilal Ramzan has been selected to chair the General Assembly’s sixth committee called Legal Committee which takes up legal issues confronting the world at large. Mr. Otto Lampe, keynote speaker at the conference, Directorate General of the United Nation and Global Issues of the German Federal Foreign office, highlighted the importance of United Nations world and emphasized the need for reforms in Security Council with the inclusion of an African nation as a permanent member of the UN Security Council. Punjab University’s delegation won a total of 9 awards out of which 4 awards were clinched for best research and position papers while 5 participants were awarded outstanding diplomacy awards. Punjab University has been once again recognized as the best delegation at MUIMUN for the fifth consecutive years. Award winners included Zeeshan Nadeem, Raza Bakir, Muhammad Umair, Fatima Zehra, Nadeem Irshad and Shehryar Khalid. It is pertinent to mention that MUIMUN is the biggest model UN conference in Germany with students from over 40 countries participating each year. This year, students from Ivy League universities were among the other notable participants. PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, Director PU Model United Nations Society Prof Shaista Sonnu Sirajudding and Chairperson Department of English Language & Literature Prof Dr Amra Raza have congratulated the students on their most commendable achievement and hoped that this collaboration between students of these universities and the Punjab University will lead to further academic collaboration. |
