Program for remote sensing, GIS and climate change research at PU


LAHORE: (Wednesday, December 2, 2020): Remote Sensing, GIS and Climatic Research Lab (RSGCRL), a constituent national lab of National Center of GIS and Space Applications (NCGSA), established at Punjab University has launched an Institutional Capacity Building and Professional Development Program (ICBPDP) to promote research culture and development activities in the fields of remote sensing, GIS and climate change in Pakistan. In this program, trainings, workshops, lectures, short courses, seminars, conferences and research-based activities will be arranged and promoted, and also, to support the vision of the PU Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad, external linkages will be developed with academic institutions, industry and services sector organizations. Under this program, a training session “Geotechnical Concept and Support for Emergency Management” was conducted by Dr. Khalid Mahmood at Emergency Services Academy, Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) Headquarter, Lahore. A first batch of top tier management staff consisting of District Emergency Officers, IT Instructors, Emergency Officers (research wing) from 17 different districts of the Punjab participated in this training session. This is considered to be a first step towards an establishment and development of a Rescue-1122 Geospatial Research Wing under the guidance and collaboration of RSGCRL to meet international standards in emergency management. According to the press release, this research wing will be of great importance for efficient decision making, planning & development of adaptable and workable solutions leading to disaster management and mitigation strategies, and for sustainable, safe and resilient lifestyle.
