PU MMG dept observes DNA & Malaria days


LAHORE: (Friday, April 29, 2016): Punjab University Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics (MMG) has observed World DNA Day and World Malaria Day. A lecture was organized in collaboration with National Academy of Young Scientists (NAYS) to create awareness about Malaria and Zika Virus. MMG’s Chairperson Prof. Dr. Anjum Nasim Sabri, shared her valuable views about the fight to end malaria. NAYS President Mr. Aftab Ahmed shared his views about DNA Discovery. Javeria Hashmi, MPhil students of MMG Department, talked about the epidemiology, etiology, genomics and preventive measures of Zika virus. Aqsa Zaheer, M Phil students of MMG Department, told about the relationship of Zika virus with Dengue and Chicken gunea as well as its role in microcephaly and GBS. Guest speaker Dr. H. M. Kashif Saleem was discussed the complexity and diagnostics of Zika virus. Take home message was that we need to invest more in the future so that we can “End Malaria for Good” through prevention and treatment.
