"BSL1 Design, Budget and Working: A Competition" on 16th May, 2016 in collaboration with Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics


The “Biosafety and Bio-resource Committee”, University of the Punjab organized “BSL1 Design, Budget and Working: A Competition” on 16th May, 2016 in collaboration with Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics. The competition participants were students of BSc. Hons 8th semester, Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics. The class was divided into four groups and they presented BSL-1 Lab Design, Budget and Working in detail. Group-1 including: Shanzay Ahmed, Aroona Ejaz, Sadia Nasir, Hafsa Naseem, Sheeza Ali, Rushda Tariq, Maryam Aslam, Afifa Afzal, Ayesha Rahat, Ibrar Iqbal and Fezza Arshad secured first position in the competition.

The competition was judged by members of Biosafety and Bio-resource Committee, including Prof. Dr. Shahida Hasnain (HEC-National Distinguished Professor, Vice-Chancellor-Women University, Multan), Prof. Dr. Javed Iqbal Qazi (Chairman, Department of Zoology, University of the Punjab) and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Idrees Khan (Director, Center for Applied Molecular Biology, University of the Punjab). In addition to the members of Biosafety and Bio-resource Committee, Prof. Dr. Sikander Sultan and Dr. Zakia Latif- faculty members of Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, served as jury members for the competition. At the end of competition, Chairperson of Biosafety and Bio-resource Committee and Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, Prof. Dr. Anjum Nasim Sabri shared her insightful views about biosafety and other lab hazards. She reminded students of their responsibilities as scientists and researchers. At the end, Honorable guest Prof. Dr. Javed Iqbal Qazi was invited over to distribute certificates to the winners and participants.
