PU CEMB organizes workshop on CRISPR technology


LAHORE: (Tuesday, June 07, 2016): Punjab University Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB) in collaboration with Congress of Molecular Biology (CMB) and National Academy of Young Scientists (NAYS) organized one day national workshop on “CRISPR/Cas9 Genome Editing Technology”. Dean Faculty of Life Sciences Prof. Dr. Naeem Khan was the chief guest on this occasion while CEMB Director Prof Dr Tayyab Husnain, faculty members and more than 50 scientists and students from NUST, NIBGE, GCU Faisalabad, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Islamia University Bahawalpur, Kohat University of Science and Technology, Kinnaird College, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore, Science College Lahore, University of Lahore, University of Education and different institutes of Punjab university participated in the workshop. On this occasion, trainer Mr. Khayam Javed from University of Cambridge, USA gave hands on training of CRISPR technology. In his welcome address Dr. Tayyab Husnain, Director CEMB, said that an important objective of CEMB is to facilitate all researchers about new techniques by conducting such workshops. He appreciated participants coming from far-off areas of Kohat and Bahawalpur. Dr. Naeem Khan appreciated the efforts of organizers of the workshop and said that conducting such workshops is important for leading our nation towards innovation. He said that new technologies like CRISPR should be applied in the field of agriculture and health research for betterment of our society. In the concluding ceremony, Dr. Tayyab Husnain distributed certificates among all the speakers and participants.
