Dr Mujahid Kamran announces ten seats for students from Held Kashmir with free education and hostel facilities

LAHORE: (Wednesday, October 5, 2016): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has called upon Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif to give the same message to Indian premier Narendra Modi which was given by General Zia ul Haq to Rajiv Gandhi, when the general had flown to Delhi in 1987 on the pretext of watching a test match between the two countries. He was addressing the inaugural session of two-day national conference on “Indian Atrocities in Kashmir: Regional and Global Implications” at Al-Raazi Hall here on Wednesday.

The conference was organizing by PU Department of Political Science and Centre for South Asian Studies (CSAS). On this occasion, Mushaal Mullick (wife of Hurriyat Leader Yasin Malik), Chairperson Global Alliance for Kashmir & MPA Dr Farzana Nazir Meer, Prof Emeritus Dr Hassan Askari, Director CSAS and Chairperson Department of Political Science Prof Dr Umbreen Javaid, faculty members and a large number of students were present.

Addressing the conference, Dr Mujahid Kamran announced that Punjab University would provide free education and hostel facilities to 10 students from Held Kashmir. Moreover, he also announced that funds would be provided for research on Kashmir issue. Dr Mujahid Kamran requested Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif to send Mushaal Mullick abroad for presenting case of Kashmir and apprise the international community of Indian brutalities in Held Kashmir. He said that to fan terrorism in Pakistan and damage CPEC project, India had set up four desks in its intelligence agency and had allocated 300 million dollars for the purpose. He said that one desk was working for terrorism in Balochistan and other parts, second desk was working on psychological warfare to fan propaganda against Pakistan Army and ISI, third desk was working for buying politicians and media and fourth desk was set up for Afghanistan. He said that we were not supporting Kashmiris to the extent we must and the people of Held Kashmir deserved. He said that genocide of Kashmiris was going on in Held Kashmir. He said that from 1989 to date, Indian forces have martyred more than one hundred thousand Kashmiris. He said that more than ten thousand rape cases had been reported in Held Kashmir in which women were sexually assaulted and gang raped. He said that more than one hundred and six thousand structures in Held Kashmir had been destroyed by Indian forces during the period. Dr Mujahid Kamran also urged Pakistani media to show footage of Indian atrocities which had been shown by BBC. He said that India was martyring Kashmiri leader Yasin Malik by not providing him medical facilities. He said that we strongly condemn Indian attitude towards Yasin Malik and other detainees. Addressing the ceremony, Mushaal Mullick said that basic human rights were being violated by India in Held Kashmir. She said that Kashmir issue was the oldest unresolved issue at the United Nations. She said that this issue was not the issue of piece of land but Kashmiris’ right to self-determination. She said that the longest curfew of the history had been imposed in the held area. She said that Kashmiri leaders and people were being martyred while women were being rapped. She said that even children were being abused and Held Kashmir had become a living hell for the people. She said that the issue of missing persons was worsening day by day and mothers and wives did not know about their children and husbands whether they were alive or dead. She said that in the recent wave of Indian atrocities, 5,000 people had been abducted by Indian forces. She said that Draconian laws had been enforced to suppress the voice of freedom movement. However, the passion of Kashmiris was increasing and people were not taking care of their lives, she added. She said that doctors had advised to shift Yasin Malik to ICU but India was not providing life-saving medicine and other medical facilities to Mr Malik. She said that Uri attack and surgical strike were drama which had been exposed. Prof Dr Hasan Askari Rizvi said that in the present situation in Kashmir, a large number of young people had come forward and raised voice against Indian atrocities. He said that the movement of Kashmiri people was not simply a “protest movement” but a “revolutionary movement”. He said that Pakistan was facing two types of issues with regard to Kashmir. He said that the first issue was “immediate issue” in which Pakistan should demand international community to stop Indian brutalities in Kashmir. In the ‘long term issue’, he said, Pakistan should do efforts to gather international support for right to self-determination of Kashmiri people. He said that the institutions of higher education must do scientific research and create such writings based on well-researched facts and arguments on Kashmir issue to affect Western think tanks and media. Addressing the ceremony, Dr Farzana said that Kashmir was Pakistan’s heartbeat. She said that Indian army was shameless and coward. She said that Modi was a terrorist and international community’s criminal silence on Modi’s terrorism was condemnable. She said that India had imposed curfew in Held Kashmir for the last three months and people were facing problems in getting food and other necessary items of everyday life. She said that the arrest of Kulbhushan was clear proof of Indian interference in Pakistan. The two-day conference will continue today (Thursday).
