A WEBINAR AMONG INSTITUTE OF ADMINISTRATIVE SCIENCES (IAS), UNIVERSITY OF THE PUNJAB, LAHORE PAKISTAN & EMPORIA STATE UNIVERSITY IN KANSAS, THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Recognizing and appreciating cultural diversity have become important tasks for all communities. It has become an increasingly important topic in our society because, due to globalization and the widespread use of internet, the world has become a global village. Part of survival in our global village, it is necessary that we communicate with all the members of our society, adapt to the change that globalization is bringing and create space for the growth for all of us.
Based on the importance of these factors, students of IAS in collaboration with ESU decided to hold a webinar-based discussion. This webinar was conducted in the Institute of Administrative Sciences (IAS), University of the Punjab, Lahore Pakistan on 28th April 2017 with the students of Emporia State University in Kansas, the United States of America. The main theme of this conference was to discuss, at a student level, how we can appreciate cultural diversity in an increasingly global society. The main themes that we discussed in this webinar were:
Exchange programs
Cultural shocks
Economic benefits of diversity
Importance of cultural diversity
What could go wrong if there were no cultural exchanges
Cultural hybridism
How does cultural diversity affect the running/administration of a country/state?
Cultural dominance
The webinar was conducted by IAS student of 6th Semester and UGRAD Scholarship winner Naqsh Nasir, also functioning as the moderator of the ESU students. In IAS, it was moderated jointly by Usama Siddiqui, also of 6th Semester, and Namra Nasir, a SUSI Scholarship winner and a Pakistan-US Alumni Network (PUAN) member. The student participation was from the 6 th Semester from IAS and a diverse pool of students from ESU, including UGRAD and SUSI scholarship holders. For IAS, it was mediated by Mr. Muhammad Zahid, Program Co-ordinator for the BS Honours program and Course Instructor of International Development for 6th Semester.
The session included interactive communication among the students of the two universities and an entertainment session in which students of IAS shared songs in their native language with the students of ESU. The purpose of this study was to open a channel of communication between the two universities and their students, and to allow combined and individual responses from students on how to cater to an ever-increasing diverse world and move towards a globally inclusive society.
