LAHORE: (Friday, July 14, 2017): Dr. Safdar Ali Shirazi, Associate Professor, Department of Geography and Director, Centre for Integrated Mountain Research (CIMR) has recently been awarded a prestigious scholarship “DAAD:Research Stays for University Academics and Scientists for one to three months” tenable in Germany by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) for the year 2017. This scholarship is awarded to faculty holding a PhD degree with high academic achievements and recent publications in their respective disciplines. In addition to this a well-planned research project is mandatory aimed to be carried out in collaboration with a German university or research institution. The purpose of DAAD is to support short-term research stays of scientists from all over the world and thus promote the exchange of experience and networking amongst colleagues. Each year thousands of academicians across the world apply for this highly competitive funding and an independent selection committee reviews the received applications before the award of this scholarship.Dr.Shirazi is leaving for Berlin-Germany on 15thJuly to avail this scholarship. During his three months long stay in Germany, he will work with a team of scientists with diverse academic background from the Institute of Geography, Humboldt University Berlin on the ongoing research projects related to Urban Ecology and at present are:
- Model, matrix and typology of resilient cities (AXA Grant)
- Green Infrastructure and Urban Biodiversity for Sustainable Urban Development and the Green Economy (EC – FP7 Grant)
In addition to these projects Dr.Shirazi is also planning to carry a collaborative work on a project titled “Sub-urban development in Lahore, Pakistan and its soci-ecological impacts on the regional landscape: A spatiotemporal study”.
