80pc PU GIS graduates employed: Dr Mansoor Sarwar


LAHORE: (Wednesday, November 15, 2017): Punjab University College of Information Technology’s Principal Prof Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar has said that over 80 percent students of Geographical Information System (GIS) centre, PUCIT are employed in the market because of top-notch quality education. He was addressing a ceremony to celebrate World GIS Day at the auditorium of GIS Centre, New Campus here on Wednesday. PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir was the chief guest on the occasion. PU ASA President Javed Sami, Vice President Shahid Ghazi, Shumaila Gul, GIS Centre coordinator Dr Hamid Chaudhry, faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.

Highlighting the importance of GIS in our everyday life, Dr Sarwar said that there were only four students in GIS in 2004 but now M Phil program has been launched in GIS Remote Sensing and there were hundreds of students studying in the centre. He lauded the Vice Chancellor Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir on reverting the decision of segregating GIS Centre from PUCIT as GIS was closely related to the field of IT and the decision had benefited both faculty members and students. Addressing the ceremony, Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir said that the university administration had taken wise initiatives regarding GIS centre and also had promoted faculty members for their encouragement. He said that it was really a matter of pride that 80 percent graduates of the centre were being hired by multinational employers. Later, the Vice Chancellor cut the cake and Principal PUCIT Dr Mansoor Sarwar presented shield to the Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir.
