PU Library book club organizes book talk


LAHORE: (Thursday, April 12, 2018): Punjab University Library book club organized its fourth “Book Talk” program. The two books selected for the month of April were “Mr. and Mrs. Jinnah: the marriage that shook India” by Sheela Reddy written in English language and “Anar Kali: a novel” by Mirza Hamid Baig of Urdu language. PU Dean Faculty of Arts and Humanities Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal Chawala being well-known historian and scholar narrated the sensitive issues weaved in the book on the most controversial marriage of subcontinent and their impacts on the parallel going independence movement. A critical account on the second book written in Urdu language was provided by Department of Urdu Prof Dr Zia Ul Hassan while honoring the author of the book, Mirza Hamid Baig, who accompanied him on the dais. Zia not only narrated the main story plot of the book along with reading some extracts from it, he logically encouraged the audience to read fiction to explore their inner-selves. Mirza Hamid Baig, the author of the book, thanked PU Library for managing a platform to discuss good books and informed that the book is based on a research and writing effort span of nearly thirty one years. PU Chief Librarian Dr Muhammad Haroon Usmani expressed his gratitude for the speakers and author for to be a part of PU Library book club.
