A Seminar on “Road Safety & Traffic Awareness” organized by Dept. of Botany


The Department of Botany organized a seminar on “Road Safety & Traffic Awareness”, on Thursday, April 12, 2018, in Al-Razi Hall, Centre for Undergraduate Studies. The seminar was organized in collaboration with Pakistan National Highway & Motorway Police. Mr. Afzal Majeed, Chief Patrolling Officer/D.S.P. was the Chief Guest while Mr. Rana Irfan, Road Safety Officer, was the guest speaker.

The speaker Mr. Rana Irfan, highlighted the various aspects of road safety provided by the Motorway Police and created awareness among the audience. He described the road safety statistics in Pakistan and educated the audience about the causes due to which 13,000 people are dying annually in different types of Road accidents. The safety measures and precautions were shown in the form of short documentaries that very much grabbed the interest of the students. The Chief Guest, Mr. Afzal Majeed, expressed his gratitude to the Department and University of the Punjab for arranging the seminar. The Chairperson Department of Botany, Prof. Dr. Firdaus-e-Bareen concluded the seminar by briefing the students about the importance of traffic rules. In the end, she expressed her happiness over the success of such a useful and interactive seminar. A souvenir was presented to Prof. Dr. Firdaus-e-Bareen by Mr. Afzal Majeed on behalf of Pakistan Motorway Police. A large number of students and faculty members including Prof. Emeritus Dr. S. R.A Shamsi, Prof. Dr. Faheem Aftab, Prof. Dr. A.N. Khalid and students attended the seminar.
