Cancer Awareness Week to be observed at Institute of Administrative Sciences (IAS)- University of the Punjab

LAHORE: (Monday, October 29, 2018): Students of BS Management took the initiative of observing a Cancer Awareness Week at the campus from Oct 29th to 2nd November 2018. The month of October is internationally observed as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) where the charity organizations and concerned medical professionals increase awareness of the disease and raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. Like previous year, Institute of Administrative Sciences (IAS) and Cancer Care Hospital again joined hands for spreading the awareness about the deadly disease. Prof. Dr. Areesha Zaman – Radiologist and Board member at Cancer Care Hospital delivered a highly inspirational talk to students, not only educating them about the disease but also about charity and fund raising campaigns to support the cause of free treatment by Cancer Care Hospital. Dr. Areesha Zaman shared the progress of the hospital that is under construction and will be operational by January 2019. It is praise worthy that the team of doctors has already started free of charge treatment of patients at Ihsan Mumtaz Hospital in Lahore.

Prof. Dr. Nasira Jabeen- Dean FEMS and Director IAS shared her grateful expressions for the team from Cancer Care hospital, to the students for arranging this campaign and the course instructor, Mr. Asad Awan for supervising the noble project. She appreciated the efforts towards the cause of publicness and its resonance with the vision and mission of the institute. Prof. Jabeen endorsed the fund raising campaigns and addressed the students on the significance of charity from the social and religious aspects. As a token of love and appreciation, flower bouquets were presented to Prof. Dr. Areesha Zaman and her team for taking out their precious time for this noble and highly significant cause.

The cancer awareness week would include fund raising, Cancer Awareness Walk and a talk on Palliative Care by doctors from Cancer Care Hospital. In early October this year, IAS joined hands with Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Center (SKMCH&RC) too, to conduct an awareness session on Breast cancer. The Institute of Administrative Sciences (IAS) encourages other departments of University of the Punjab to conduct such awareness campaigns to spread the valuable information to masses. The alarming number of diagnosed cancer cases in our country calls for a prime importance towards this challenge. Therefore students and our youth should be prepared to play a very significant role in eradicating and minimizing the incidence of cancer from our society.
