Call for adopting interdisciplinary approach to resolve psychological issues


LAHORE: (Thursday, March 21, 2019): Former Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission Prof Dr Nizamuddin has said that interdisciplinary approach is missing in our academic and research culture and we must ensure interconnectivity of disciplines to resolve psychological issues being faced by the society. He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of international conference on recent trends and interventions in clinical psychology organized by Punjab University Centre for Clinical Psychology here on Thursday. PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Niaz Ahmad, CCP Director Dr Saima Dawood, scientists from various parts of the world and country, faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.

Addressing the seminar, Dr Nizamuddin said that no discipline could work in isolation and there was need to adopt collective approach in our academic culture. He said there was lack of psychological studies in Pakistan and we should create knowledge through doing indigenous original research. He said that our social problems would be solved when we would set our research agenda. He said that we could also reduce number of crimes through psychological counseling. Addressing the conference, PU VC Prof Niaz Ahmad said that people were not even aware of their psychological issues. He said that our society was facing several issues in education psychology, industrial psychology, sports psychology etc and our experts must focus on resolving it. He said that PU would extend full support to launch such projects which would help resolve psychological issues being faced in Pakistani society. CCP Director Dr Saima Dawood said that there was a huge scope to work in clinical psychology for students and experts. She said that 10 pre conference workshops had been conducted from 4th-19th March whereas, 4 workshops would be conducted after conference on different topics of clinical psychology. She said that the aim of workshops was to provide professional training to professionals and trainees to deal with mental health issues. She said that eminent professionals and students from the field of mental health from all over Pakistan were presenting 135 empirical research papers in 18 scientific sessions of the conference. She said that the purpose of the conference was to create awareness among general public and to enhance the clinical skills and knowledge of the trainees of mental health.
