PU VC seeks new ideas to solve country’s problem


LAHORE: (Tuesday, November 21, 2017): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir has urged the students to work on new ideas to pull our beloved homeland out of the problems it was facing. He was addressing the 5th International Conference on Research in Education (ICORE) organized by PU Institute of Education and Research at Faisal Auditorium here on Tuesday. On this occasion Punjab Higher Education Commission Director General Dr Shahid Soroya, Dean Faculty of Education Prof Dr Mumtaz Akhtar, Director IER Prof Dr Rafaqat Ali Akbar, Dr John Buchanan, Prof Dr Abid Hussain Choudhary, senior faculty members and a large number students were present.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir said that many things were haunting our country. He said that our 50 percent people were living below poverty line and we must help our nation and pay back through research that could contribute to socio-economic development. He said that there was need to impart skills that could create confidence among our students because they were nation builders and future of Pakistan. He said that we must make collective efforts for sustainable development of country and there was need to promote research in the field of education. PHEC Director General Dr Shahid Soroya said that universities were not meant for awarding degrees only but to promote dialogue, ideas and research. He said that the one of the prime aims of PHEC was to ensure quality education in the province at graduate and post graduate level. He said that PHEC had taken several initiatives which would bring revolution in higher education sector in the province. He said that PHEC had paid special attention to the field of education and faculty development training programs had been launched. Dr Rifaqat Ali Akbar said that lack of education was the reason behind problems. He said ICORE was being organized to promote research in education sector. He said that researchers from many parts of the world and country were participating in the conference and 284 research papers would be presented. He said that it was the best opportunity for IER students to share experiences and knowledge with researchers of international repute. Later, Dr John Buchanan presented keynote address. The conference would continue till November 23, 2017.
