LAHORE: (Wednesday, March 26, 2014): “Enhancement of economic ties between Pakistan and China would not only strengthen their strategic partnership in a fast changing world but would also lead towards stability, development and peace in the region.” These views were expressed at the international seminar organized at Punjab University’s Pakistan Study Centre. A three member delegation from Jiangsu Normal University, Xuzhou including Director Pakistan Research Centre, Jiangsu University and Deputy Chairman of Chinese People’s Political Consultative conference, Xuzhou, and member CPPCC Jiangsu Province Prof. Sun Hongqi, Professor Ms. Wen Jian and Guest Professor Wang Nan addressed on the occasion while Dean Faculty of Arts and Humaities Prof. Dr. Massarrat Abid, Senator Dr Jahangir Badar, faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the theme of the seminar, Prof. Dr. Sun Hongqi said that relationships between two countries were people to people specific and their hearts beat in same tune. He said strong relations had been passing though generations to generations. He said that the cooperation in economic, energy and strategic fields was touching new heights. HE said Jiangsu, the most developed province of China, and Punjab province had been declared sisters provinces about twenty years ago. He said that cultural contacts were more important to make wider economic corridors and there was a need to improve the communication between the people of both countries. Dr Massarrat Abid said that Pakistan and China were friends and good neighbours and the two countries enjoy close relation with respect to military and nuclear ties. She said the friendship had been growing over the years because both countries believe in peaceful co-existence. She said the Chinese help in social and economic development of Pakistan was most valuable and the growing economic cooperation would bring the people of two countries even closer and lead towards prosperity. Prof. Wang Nan, former correspondent ‘Peoples Daily’ in Pakistan, Advisor and Guest Professor Jiangsu Normal University, in his speech stressed upon that Pakistan has very special position in the foreign policy of China. Nan said the foreign intervention in the region was not good for the whole South Asia. Nan said there was a need to augment relationship between communities of Pakistan and China. Prof. Ms. Wen Jian, Senior Research Fellow at Pakistan Research Centre, also member of Music Branch of Chinese Education Association, also spoke on the occasion. She won the hearts of audience by playing Pakistani national songs on Pipa, one kind of Chinese national music instrument. Senator Dr. Jehangir Bader also expressed his views at the seminar. A lively question-answer session followed the seminar. Later, the Chinese delegation visited Jiangsu Cultural Centre at Lahore and toured the historical sights of the city.
