Seminar on “Importance of Certified Seeds”


An awareness seminar on “Importance of Certified Seeds” was organized by the Institute of Agricultural Sciences in collaboration with the Institute of Communication Studies, University of the Punjab, on Thursday, 22nd September,2016
The Director IAGS, Prof. Dr. M. Saleem Haider welcomed the Chief Guest (Mr. Ameer Khan Khattak, Director, Punjab Skills Develpoment Project), honorable guests (Dr. Anjum Ali, DG-Agriculture Extension, Punjab, Mr. Khalid Khokar, Chairman Kissan Ittahad Pakistan, Main Kaleem, Incharge Agricultural Technology Unit, ZTBL, Mr. Sajjad Sarwar, Seed Scientist, Jaffar Agriculture Services and other participants.
The DG Extension, Dr. Anjum Ali, highlighted that there are many reasons to use certified seeds. It is the starting point of a successful crop as well as an important risk management tool. Mainly certified seed provides varietal purity, guaranteed quality assurance, access to new opportunities, traceability of food safety, new genetics of improved seed and access to premium markets.
The Chief Guest, Mr. Ameer Khan Khattak, highlighted the production of certified seeds and transfer rate to farmers. He also mentioned that if farmers use certified seed then their production of any specific crop will be increased in many tons/mounds. At last, he appreciated the organizers effort of arranging such an excellent seminar for the agriculture community and also said to organize such type of awareness seminars/campaign repeatedly.
Through this seminar, the students of the University were not only involved in a healthy exercise but it also made them learn about team work, their environment and filled them with a sense of responsibility, love and compassion.
