LAHORE: (Thursday, May 3, 2018): Punjab University Institute of Agricultural Sciences (IAGS) has organized a seminar on “Current Trends in Halal Food Safety Assurance: Issues and Challenges”. Dr Muhammad Aslam Ghuari from Minhaj University was the chief guest while Director IAGS Prof Dr Muhammad Saleem Haider, food safety expert Dr Shinawar Waseem Ali, CEO Pak Pure Line Mr Abdul Rehman, Halal Research Council, Lahore Mufti Raees Ahmed, Director Center for Halal Assurance Lahore Mufti Suhaib Ashraf, CEO Center for Halal Assurance, Lahore Mufti Muhammad Muaz Ashraf, Senior Manager Quality Assurance Metro Cash & Carry Pakistan Sagar Mahmood Khan and more than 100 participants including faculty members and representatives from Punjab Food Authority, from different industries and students from different private and public universities, i.e. University of Lahore, Minhaj University of Lahore and University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences were present on the occasion.

The speakers emphasized and made consensus that due to growing market of Halal food, which is estimated at Rs 5.4 trillion, there should be a global and universal regulation and standards for the Halal. A product development exhibition was also made by undergraduate students of food technology; displaying some innovative kind of foods.
