One Day Symposium entitled "DIVERSITY IN MICROBIOLOGY: A CROSSTALK" Organized by the Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics, in collaboration with American Society for Microbiology (ASM)
The Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics, University of the Punjab, organized One Day Symposium “DIVERSITY IN MICROBIOLOGY: A CROSSTALK”. Microbiology students from all over Pakistan participated in the event. The chief guest of the event was the worthy Vice Chancellor of the University of the Punjab Prof. Dr. Mujahid Kamran. The program was started with the name of Allah by recitation of Verses from the Holy Quran. This was followed by Naat Rasool-e-Maqbool (S.A.W.). Prof. Dr. Anjum Nasim Sabri, Chairperson Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics, welcomed all the guests and talked about the importance of different fields of microbiology. She said that microbes are vital for the functioning of earth and we can wisely manipulate the microbes to make this world more safe and comfortable place to live. Worthy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Mujahid Kamran, talked about the importance of sciences in our society and prosperity of nations. He said that all dimensions of a field, like microbiology, are important and by mastering our subject we can excel in the world. He quoted many examples from microbiology and his field, physics. Miss Samreen Sarwar, ASM young ambassador for Pakistan, talked about efforts ASM is putting together for the spread of microbiology knowledge in the whole world. Dr. Mehboob, assistant professor Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics, delivered vote of thanks. This was followed by tea break. This was followed by two sessions of speeches of speakers from all over Pakistan who talked about different fields of microbiology. The whole session was filled with thought provoking discussion. There was also a poster competition and lunch refreshment. In the end, certificates and shields were distributed to the participants and the organizing committee.
