LAHORE: (July 02): The Third Annual Sports prize distribution of Punjab University Gujranwala Campus held Wednesday. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, PU Gujranwala Campus Director General Prof Dr Ehsan Malik, Prof Azhar Ikram Ahmad, PU Sports Committee Chairman Dr Jamil Anwar, Director Sports Dr Asghar Javed, Anwar-ul-Haq (Baba) and a large number of students were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, VC Dr Mujahid Kamran who was the chief guest of the ceremony, congratulated those students who won the distinctions in the annual sports and he also lauded the services of Dr Ehsan Malik and his team for organizing such an healthy activity in the campus. He said sports are the organized form of play and play is so deeply inherited in the life of human being as well as animals. Hence play is inbuilt in the nature of living beings and man because of its superior mind has made the place organized in the form of sports. Dr Mujahid told that success in sports can be achieved with a certain kind of intelligence. He said that the people and students of Gujranwala are very healthy, active and energetic and he was very happy to see their shining intelligent faces.

Director General Gujranwala Campus Dr Ehsan Malik in his welcome address told the audience that the campus was established in 2005 and now there were witnessing the prize distribution of third annual sports which reflects that the event is being organized consecutive on regular basis. He said that the students of the campus are very good in the sports and PU football team captain is also from Gujranwala Campus. He said the campus won overall third position in the inter-departmental sports competitions which reflects that the campus is producing very good sportsmen.

Dr Ehsan said that the campus was established on 61 canals and 7 marla land, later 19 canals more land was purchased for the campus and now we are trying to purchase another 13 canals land for it. He said the campus is offering courses in Law, Commerce, Information Technology and Business and a new Department of Mass Communication will also be launched in Sept this year. He paid rich tributes to the campus former DG Dr Liaqat Ali for his excellent services during the last three years.

Later the VC, Dr Ehsan and other guests gave away shields and medals to the distinguished players who participated in the annual sports including hockey, volley ball, football, cricket, long throw, table tennis, badminton, chati race, long race. The students also presented various skits and saying national songs on the occasion.
