PU Student delegation wins ‘Best Delegation’ Award

LAHORE: (August 6): Punjab University 8-member delegation representing United States of America was declared the ‘Best Delegation’ in All Pakistan Beacon House Model UN Conference 2008.

The All Pakistan BMUN 2008 was organized from July 31 to August 3 and it was the first ever Model UN Conference Organized in the capital. Two delegations of Punjab University participated in this Model UN Conference and represented USA and Bosnia.

The PU delegations were lead by PU Deputy Adviser Students Syed Zubair Akram and Abdul Qadir. The delegation representing USA, led by Syed Nishat Kazmi, won six outstanding ‘Diplomacy Awards’ and two ‘Honorable Mentions’. Those who won outstanding ‘Diplomacy Awards’ included; Syed Nishat Kazmi (UNSC), Sher Afghan Malik (DISEC), Maria Mujeeb (SOCHUM), Hassan Sajjad Naqvi (SPECPOL), Sharreh Qazi (UNDCP) and Aziz Nauman (CTC). Among those two who got ‘Honorable Mentions’ included; Tayyaba Sohail (UNDP) and Amir Ejaz (UNHRC).

The second PU delegation in the conference representing Bosnia, led by Tasneem Sarwar, won two honorable mentions. Among those two who were awarded ‘Honorable Mentions’ included Tasneem Sarwar (UNDP) and Affan Asad Taj (DISEC). The PU delegation representing USA was then officially declared the ‘Best Delegation’ at the closing ceremony of the conference.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran and PU Adviser Students Dr Mujahid Ali Mansoori congratulated the teams and appreciated their hard work. The Vice-Chancellor also congratulated PU Model UN Committee members Prof Shazia Qureshi and Dr Aurangzeb Alamgir on this success. Apart from the Committee sessions in the 4-day event, PU students also participated actively in the social events such as ‘Global Village’, Talent show and a gaming competition World War 2.5 Earlier the delegation led by Syed Nishat Kazmi met US Principal Officer Bryan D Hunt in the US Consulate.

This meeting was aimed to provide the students an insight into US foreign policy for the better preparation in BMUN 08. In the meeting, Bryan Hunt briefed the students about US policies on specific topics. He appreciated the commitment of students for representing US in the best possible way. He also gave students some books about the US.
