VC urges heads of all depts to take interest in co-curricular activities
LAHORE : (Wednesday, January 13, 2010): Punjab University students won 137 individual positions in various national and international level co-curricular competitions in the year 2009 including 69 first, 43 second and 25 third positions. These competitions included Urdu/English speech contests, Qiraat, Naat, Drama, Documentary, Painting, Photography etc. Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran hosted a dinner in the honour of position holder students and their parents in the Al-Raazi Hall of Centre for Undergraduate. Addressing the students, the vice-chancellor said that they (students) had earned that fame for PU which this university really deserved. He said the heads of departments had to take keen interest to encourage and polish the students' creative skills. He said PU had a lot of talent and the only need was to promote it. He appealed the heads of departments to also organize co-curricular competitions in their departments and take keen interest. On the request of a student, the vice-chancellor announced to award roll of honour and certificates to the position holder students.
Earlier, Adviser Students Iftikhar Ahmad Chaudhry presented detailed report of 2009 distinctions. He said PU earned 28 first positions in 2008 while this year the numbers of first positions were 69, while 12 seconds in 2008 and 43 seconds in 2009 whereas there were 9 were third position in 2009 and 25 are in 2009.
Moreover, PU students also got diplomacy awards in Model UN conferences in Germany and Netherlands and got Allama Iqbal Shield last year. PU students also bagged all top positions in CM's essay writing and English/Urdu speech competitions at Lahore division level. He requested the VC to organize a special recreational tour for these students to which the vice-chancellor showed his agreement.
Over 150 position holder students and their parents and faculty members of the varsity attended the ceremony.
