PU VC makes on the spot detailed inspection of New Campus developmental works


7-member Committee tasked to resolve sewerage problem

No payment of contractor without prior verification of RO-I

LAHORE : (Tuesday, January 19, 2010): Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has directed the University Project Director to expeditiously complete the ongoing development works relating to constructions of roads, footpaths, drainage and sewerage system in order to avoid any inconvenience to the residents of New Campus residential colony.

These instructions were given by him during his detailed, on the spot, detailed visit to the various blocks of the residential colony to review the progress of construction of footpaths as well as drainage system to avoid ponding of water during the rainy season. He was also accompanied by the 16-member New Campus Management Committee.

The Vice-Chancellor was informed that the existing sewerage system of the University is not functioning properly. At this, he constituted a seven-member Committee, headed by the Chairman Hall Council, with the direction to submit its detailed report within a week's time for identifying the problem with reasons so that the sewerage system is improved on permanent basis. He further directed that in future no payment in respect of final bills of the contractor shall be made, without prior verification of the same by the Resident Officer-I.

During the inspection, Dr Mujahid Kamran also noticed heaps of debri scattered and piled up in certain sectors of the colony owing to the ongoing maintenance work. He ordered the contractor to ensure removal of the same within two days positively. He instructed that the uncovered manholes and garbage bins should be properly covered for ensuring complete sanitation and cleanliness in the residential blocks.

The Vice-Chancellor also met with some of the residents at their door-steps in D, E, F and GH blocks to apprise himself about their problems pertaining to sui gas, street lights, etc and directed the concerned officials to address the same on urgent basis. He further instructed that the level of under construction footpaths should be lowered upto the existing road level for the smooth disposal of rainy water.
