Education criminally neglected in past. Political leadership asked to enact legislation for allocating 4% of GDP to educational promotion

LAHORE : (Friday, January 29, 2010): Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has stated that the supreme sacrifices rendered by our civil and military brethren to safeguard the ideological and territorial integrity of the country and glory of Islam have guaranteed independence to the Pakistani nation.

He was addressing award giving ceremony of Umeed Foundation Trust in Alhamra Hall no. 3 here today which was held to honour the civil and military ‘Shuhda' who had laid down their lives in South Wazirastan operation and bomb blast incidents including the persons who performed meritorious services in various walks of national life. CCPO Lahore Muhammad Pervaiz Rathore, Director FIA Azam Joya also addressed the audience.

Dr Mujahid Kamran said that the Pakistani nation blessed with unmatched mental and creative capabilities. However, without education and training none of the human faculty can attain its optimal perfection. He said owing the criminal neglect show to the development of education sector in the past decades, our youth had not been able to realize their full potential and groom their God gifted faculties. Resultantly our nation could not carry out its leadership role in the comity of nations despite the fact that it possessed all the attributes essential for such a global role. He said as a result of unflinching determination are the part of political and military leadership and the continuity in the atomic energy policy, we were able to become the only atomic power of the Islamic world. He said if the political leadership demonstrate a similar resolve and commitment for the continuous implementation of education policy we can achieve concerete results in attaining 100% literacy in a very short span of time. He said top most importance is being assigned to the education of PU students so as to provide most dynamic and competent leadership for the reconstruction and development of the country in the years ahead. He appeal to the leaders of mainstream parties to join their hands for enacting necessary legislation to ensure allocation of four percent of our GDP to education sector. Earlier director FIA Azam Joya while addressing the audience stated that Punjab Government has recruited 5000 traffic wardens for maintaining smooth flow of traffic in the city. He asked the traffic wardens to carry out their traffic duties with a missionary zeal for speedy service delivery.
