Dr. Khalid Mahmood is affiliated with University of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan. Apart for being an excellent teacher, he is a researcher in the field of Earth observation sciences and Geographic Information System (GIS). He is actively involved in the promotion of concept of “second tier of science”, for the development of practical and easy scientific / technological solutions to problems faced by third world countries. He has many notable International publications (published by lead publishers i.e. ELSEVIER, Springer Nature, Tylor & Francis) to his credit. In addition to his responsibilities as a University Professor he is serving as Principal Investigator from Pakistan side for an international collaboration and exchange program project entitled “Development of satellite based environmental indices with proper spatial analysis for dumped MSW monitoring: perspective of varying geographical conditions” funded by Pak-Turk Researchers’ Mobility grant program and Co-Principal Investigator for Remote Sensing, GIS and Climate Research Lab (RSGCRL), National Centre for GIS and Space Applications. Acknowledging his research contribution, he has been recognized as Young Productive Scientist of Pakistan by National Ministry of Science and Technology, Pakistan. He mainly involves in exercising his abilities for hazard assessment and spatial patterns identification of environmental variables.
He is specialized in the use of Geospatial Sciences for hazard assessment and spatial patterns identification of environmental variables. Major areas of his research domain include groundwater assessment, MSW dumping hazards assessment, atmospheric pollution, rainwater harvesting, vegetation health, urban heat island effect, feasible site selection of public facilities, forestry, climate change and its effects, environmental indices etc.
