Internship Process Flow for the Department of Software Engineering

Internship Policy for Undergraduate Students

Aims and Objectives

    The purpose of the internship is to actively involve students in professional software engineering environment, where they can apply their theoretical knowledge in practical settings, engage with industry-standard tools and practices, and develop soft and technical skills essential for computing professionals.

Scope and Applicability

In alignment with the guidelines of the National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC), it is mandatory that all undergraduate students are required to undertake an internship during their 4-years degree.the Department of Software Engineering has decided that all undergraduate students are required to undertake an internship. This policy is applicable to all students enrolled in the BS Software Engineering program.

Internship Requirements
  • Duration: Minimum 6 weeks (Full-time equivalent).
  • Credits: 0 Credit Hrs./Non-GPA Bearing.
  • Recommended Timeline: At any time during the 4-year degree, preferably after 6th semester during the summer break.
  • Mode: On-site preferred (freelance/remote internships permitted with prior departmental approval).
  • Domain: Relevant to software engineering or computing fields.
    The internship experience must directly contribute to the student’s professional development as a computer scientist or software engineer. Typically, the nature of work should involve the design and/or implementation of services or software systems, whether in application domains or within the scope of systems and software development. Tasks of a routine, clerical, or operational nature such as data entry or basic hardware/software installation, do not qualify as valid internship experiences.
Internship Arrangement and Placement Support

Students are encouraged to secure internships using professional networks such as LinkedIn, social media, online career portals, referrals, or direct applications to companies. The Departmental Placement Office will also actively support students by sharing verified internship opportunities and organizing industry engagement events.

Internship Process Flow

Students are expected to follow a structured procedure beginning with internship identification and approval, followed by completion of the internship, and concluding with the submission of required documents for verification. The department maintains official records only upon successful completion of all steps outlined in the process flow. The detailed process for internship enrolment, execution, and completion is outlined below

  1. Student identifies and secures an internship opportunity.
  2. Students must submit a formal Internship Approval Form/ internship acceptance letter from the host organization to the Department prior to start the internship. Click here to initiate internship registartion process.
  3. The Internship Coordinator will review and approve the placement based on relevance and suitability of the organization.
  4. Upon completion of the internship, student is required to submit the following document within two weeks of internship completion:
    1. A post-internship feedback form filled by the student to register their internship experience.
      Click here to fill the post-internship feedback form. This form will also collect the official contact details of your immediate supervisor/manager, which the department will use to send the employer evaluation form.
    2. A duly completed Internship Evaluation Form from the host organization.
    3. An official Certificate of Completion on the host organization’s letterhead.

  5. The department reviews and verifies the submitted internship documents for completeness and authenticity.
  6. Upon successful verification, the internship is recorded as ‘Completed’ in the departmental records.
Evaluation Criteria

On the completion of the internship, students are required to furnish:

  1. A duly completed Internship Evaluation Form from the host organization.
  2. An official Certificate of Completion on the host organization’s letterhead.
To facilitate the evaluation process, the student must provide the department with the official contact details of their immediate supervisor or manager. An evaluation form will be sent directly to the employer via email. The supervisor will complete the form and submit it to the department. These documents will serve as confirmation that the student has successfully completed the internship. However, no formal grade or credit will be recorded against a successful completion.

Code of Conduct

Students must uphold the university's standards of professionalism and integrity throughout the internship. Any misconduct, misrepresentation, or failure to adhere to host company rules may result in disciplinary action and failure to complete the internship satisfactorily.
