The School of Biological Sciences (SBS), University of the Punjab, Lahore was established in 2002 with the "prime mandate" to impart quality education/research guidance of international standard to M.Phil and Ph.D students in the broader domain of Biological Sciences. To achieve this goal, SBS in a short span of two decades has developed infrastructure which is at par with international standards and has emerged as a focal point for research activities in the realm of modern-day biology. Human Resource development is another cornerstone of the objectives of the SBS. The School is also engaged in providing quality education and research environment not only to its own students but also from other life sciences departments/institutes of the university as well as of the country. The School has progressed to its present level of excellence under the able guidance and devoted leadership of its first Director General, Prof. Dr. M. Akhtar FRS, its Directors and world class faculty having a track record of high standard international research and academic credentials. The School has produced 100 Ph.Ds, published 662 high impact factor research papers, won 41 competitive research grants from national and international donor agencies and have 7 patents to its credit, so far.

The School is holding an international conference on "Advances in Biological Sciences-ICABS-2023 on march 6-8, 2023. I wish all the best for the success of the said conference.

In my capacity as the director general and chief organizer as well as on behalf of the faculty of the School of Biological Sciences (SBS) at University of the Punjab, I warmly welcome you to the forthcoming 2023 International conference on Advances in Biological Sciences (ICABS-2023). The conference is scheduled to be held at SBS, University of the Punjab from 6-8 March 2023 as a celebration of 20 years of research excellence. The three-day conference provides a platform for researchers to share cutting edge science related to health, agriculture and environment.

We are excited to host scientists from all provinces in Pakistan as well as from foreign countries at our University. ICABS-2023 will serve to disseminate new findings and should lead to development of new ideas which will advance science further. The interactions of researchers during the meeting will not only strengthen ongoing collaborations but will also foster new linkages thus launching future partnerships, beneficial to all participants. I am positive that this conference will definitely offer suitable solutions to global issues. The conference is also commemorating 20 years of research excellence at the School of Biological Sciences. We will present our scientific achievements during this time and also share our vision for future expansion. We welcome all collaborations especially from industries which will finally enable us to market our research products. I am also most grateful to the different organizations, which have provided support to this conference financially and technically, in spite of the present economic scenario.

Although packed with a scientifically full, scintillating schedule for research presentations, the conference will also provide some time for a visit to historical sites in Lahore, for those inclined to avail this opportunity. Participants will be immersed in typical Lahori culture and will also experience local flavours and cuisine.
