During the centenary celebrations of Allama Muhammad Iqbal in the year 1977, it was decided that the Allama Iqbal Chair be established. In compliance with this decision, the chair came into being in 1980. Dr. Javed Iqbal was nominated as Honorary Professor and Mirza Muhammad Munawwar as Senior Research Officer.
