Chief Minister's Message

I am so pleased to know about the centennial celebrations of the Library Science and Information Management education being held during the current year at the University of the Punjab as ICIML 2015 to celebrate the centenary anniversary. Indeed it is a matter of pride that the Punjab University was the third one in the world to offer formal learning in such an important discipline. Libraries, knowledge and information are pillars of a civilized and developed society. The library and information professionals are mediators between the knowledge/information sources and their users.
I would like to congratulate the Chair, Dept. of Information Management, for organizing such a prestigious international conference to commemorate the centennial celebrations. The Vice-Chancellor‘s support in this regard is notably commendable...Read More.

Vice Chancellor's Message

Any society that does not imbibe its history cannot construct its future and is doomed to alienation. This estrangement with one’s roots could even lead to worthlessness. It is with this realization that the need to document one’s heritage and record one’s legacy is recognized. Libraries and other memory organizations are a dire need to embrace a society in the present as the continuity of the past.

I am so pleased that the Department of Information Management is celebrating the centenary of formal library science and information management education in the Asian Region; it bodes well for the Department and the University in particular, and our society in general. The Chair of the Department, Prof. Kanwal Ameen, is to be commended for taking the initiative and organizing the “International Conference on Information Management & Libraries”. I would like to congratulate to her and her colleagues and wish them the best in endeavor to keep the spirit of imparting the education and training required for managing, curating and disseminating information to the society.

Also, I extend a warm welcome to the delegates at PU campus. Surely they will enjoy both the campus and the city of Lahore while enlightening themselves with the scholarly content.

Message From the Chair

The Department of Information Management is celebrating centenary anniversary of the Library Science and Information Management education in Asia, which started at the University of the Punjab (PU) in 1915.  PU took lead in establishing a seat of formal learning in this discipline by appointing an American Librarian, Asa Don Dickenson. He then designed a Certificate Course in Librarianship. Since its inception the nomenclature has been evolved as “Librarianship”, “Library Science”, “Library and Information Science”, and most recent “Information Management” to display the dynamic nature of the discipline. The Department has planned an International Conference on Information Management and Libraries (ICIML 2015) to celebrate the centenary anniversary. It will take place in Lahore, the historical city of Pakistan.
