Vision:
The pivotal factor of the Vision of Centre for Undergraduate Studies is to impart concept based knowledge to the students of Botany, Chemistry, Zoology and Statistics for their first two years of BS. This is to facilitate the departments whose students study common courses. This purposefully built building with Al-Razi Hall, Video Conference Room and Committee Room provides a chance for the economic utilization of resources for these departments.
Mission Statement:
Centre for Undergraduate Studies imparts strong conceptual knowledge and training in research techniques during the first two academic years to the students of various majors, who study in a healthy competitive environment, not only making them excel in research at parent departments but also teaching them to remain tolerant towards others’ emotions.
Goals:
Centre for Undergraduate Studies teaches the students of BS. during their beginning years to prepare them for research in their parent departments. These students are equipped efficiently to master the fundamental concepts of basic sciences with an additional tinge of Languages (English, French, and Chinese), Mathematics and Computer Skills which furbishes their minds to participate in the research culture of University of the Punjab. The teachers as a part of their goal make efforts to master the students in laboratory skills, data handling, dealing with equipment and analytical skills. The students get a unique chance to share their knowledge in a highly competitive environment with their peers of other majors. Here, they compete with each other not only in academic debates in the class rooms but also in the grounds where sports galas and other competitions are regularly arranged to make them participate in extra-curricular activities and to inculcate sportsmanship and emotions of mutual care and respect. Endorsing the vision of University of the Punjab, Centre for Undergraduate Studies in its microcosm, imparts ethical and moral values to its students to produce a generation which would love its country and respect and follow religion.
Center for Undergraduate Studies was inaugurated on 12th of September, 2007 by Lt. Gen. (R) Arshad Mahmood, former vice chancellor. The students, indented to do four years bachelors (B.S Hons.) in the discipline of Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Statistics and Mathematics, are taught for the first two years in the center. Here, the students, study their compulsory subjects with the elective subjects and then they are promoted to their parent departments with full basic knowledge of their respective fields. Center for Undergraduate Studies, a three storey building with well furnished spacious class rooms and modern science labs, is located at one of the most attractive place of the university, near the administration block and VC office, surrounded by important science departments. Center is designed to meet all the academic and professional challenges of the modern times. Center for Undergraduate Studies comprises of a highly qualified regular and visiting faculty, Al-Raazi Hall (auditorium), video conferencing room, computer lab with latest computers and a library with an enormous collection of books.
