Dr Sarfraz Ahmad

Session:1999-2001

Designation: Sarfraz Ahmad (Tenured Professor of Mathematics, Chairperson at COMSATS University Islamabad) completed his MSc from University of Punjab during 1999-2001 session.

He holds a PhD in Mathematics (2008) specializing in Monomial Algebra under the supervision of Prof. Dorin Popescu. Additionally, a Post-Doctorate in Combinatorial Commutative Algebra was completed (2010-2011) with Prof. Volkmar Welker in Germany. With expertise in Combinatorial Commutative Algebra and Combinatorics, their research contributions include 76 high-impact publications, over 1340 citations, and supervision of 7 PhD and 42 Master's students. As Chairperson of the Mathematics Department at COMSATS University Islamabad, they elevated it to Pakistan’s top-ranked department and introduced innovative BS programs in Mathematics with Data Science and IT & Finance.

They have organized multiple international events, led the Pakistan IMO team since 2015, and visited 28 countries for research and conferences. Their awards include Best Speaker at LUMS (2005) and numerous grants, including from CIMPA and IMU (GRAID). Proficient in CoCoA, Singular, Macaulay 2, and Python, they have 18 years of teaching experience and extensive administrative roles, including chairmanship and international activities leadership.
