Description

The Research Society of Pakistan was sponsored by the Evacuee Trust Property Board as a successor to the Gokhale School of Economics and Politics with the aim of raising the standard of scholarship and research in Pakistan. Later, the Board proposed to the University of the Punjab to integrate the Society with the University itself. Consequently, the Syndicate of the University of the Punjab in its meeting held on 30 May 1964 decided that the Research Society be integrated with the Punjab University as a semi-autonomous body with its own Board of Governors and the Vice-Chancellor as its President

The Society has acquired a valuable collection of books on modern history, besides old files of important newspapers, assembly debates, and records and material about the activities of the Muslim League, the Khilafat Movement, and the Congress Committee. It has made a place for itself on the educational and research map of the country and its non-lending library draws scholarly readers not only from Lahore but from places as far as Quetta, Karachi, and Peshawar and all countries of the world. The quarterly journal of the Society comes out regularly and is also sent to universities and academic bodies abroad including the U.S.A. the United Kingdom, Germany, FranceBelgium, Holland, Turkey, and various countries of the Middle East.
