History of the DEL

Linkages with other international universities were in progress in the past but with the rapid expansion in the various fields of study, the university administration decided to create a separate section for External Linkages and in the Syndicate meeting held on December 11, 2004, the post of Director, External Linkages was approved.

Dr. Fouzia Hadi Ali  (2017 – 2018)

Dr. Maria Isabel Maldonado
Dr.María Isabel Maldonado García (Spanish Linguistics, Institute of Languages) took the charge of Director in July, 2009.
Having worked in Spain, Ireland, England, USA and Pakistan and traveled through four Continents and speaking four languages, Dr. Maldonado brings to the Directorate a vast international experience as well as "know-how" of international relations and proceedings. She is also the only PhD in Spanish Language and General Linguistics in the country. Until now she has received more than 100 delegations, been the focal person for several presidential and prime minister’s MoUs as well as the Pakistan representative of Erasmus Mundus, Experts Asia Project and the focal person for the honorary PhD of Mr. Fetullah Gullen.

Prof. Dr. Najma Najam (February 2008 – March 2009)
Prof. Dr. Najma Najam (Department of Psychology and Applied Psychology), who is also the founder Vice-Chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Women University, Rawalpindi took the charge of third Director, External Linkages on February, 2008. Having vast experience in the field of research, administration and official linkages at national/international level, she gave the directorate a new direction of progress. During her period (February, 2008 to March, 2009) foreign delegates of UK, New Zealand, Republic of Korea and USA visited Punjab University and signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) for exchange of student/teacher, research and joint degree programs. 11 MOUs were also signed during her period with Italy, USA, Iran, Korea and UK universities.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hafeez (April 2006 – January 2008)
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hafeez (Director, Institute of Social and Cultural Studies) took the charge of second Director, External Linkages on April, 2006. Dr. Hafeez did PhD from the Australian National University, Canberra, Australia in 2001 and his area of specialization is Sociology of Development. During his period the Directorate performed better and Dr. Hafeez visited Iran for the collaboration with Iranian Universities. During his period 15 MOUs were signed Germany, Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, Egypt, Korea, Zimbabwe, Japan, Iran, Sweden and Russian Universities.

Prof. Dr. Naeem Khan (December 2004 to June 2005)

Prof. Dr. Naeem Khan is the founder Director, External Linkages (December 2004 to June 2005). Presently, he is Registrar and Professor of Zoology, University of the Punjab,
Lahore (BS-20) since 2004, and is also member of various administrative and management committees. During his period seven MOUs were signed with Iran and Chinese Universities. He worked diligently for the development of linkages with national/international universities and with other organizations.
