Operation Research is the modern and professional discipline. It aims to provide rational basis to decision making by seeking to understand, and structure complex situations and to use this understanding to predict system behavior and improve system performance. Operation Research provides the means for effective decision-making regarding mainly with operational in nature e.g. areas of managerial control, policy analysis etc., as well as design system.

A rapid advancement in the theory of Operation Research was due to its wide application in the industry and by the onslaught of the computer revolution.
