I am so pleased to know about the centennial celebrations of the Library Science and Information Management education being held during the current year at the University of the Punjab as ICIML 2015 to celebrate the centenary anniversary. Indeed it is a matter of pride that the Punjab University was the third one in the world to offer formal learning in such an important discipline. Libraries, knowledge and information are pillars of a civilized and developed society. The library and information professionals are mediators between the knowledge/information sources and their users.
I would like to congratulate the Chair, Dept. of Information Management, for organizing such a prestigious international conference to commemorate the centennial celebrations. The Vice-Chancellor‘s support in this regard is notably commendable.
The theme of the conference “looking back, moving forward” sounds very appropriate for this event. I am sure that the research presented by he foreign and national speakers and display of best professional practices will be beneficial in the development of knowledge society and knowledge economy in Pakistan. It is also good to know that thousands of Alumnae of the Department have been serving all over the world and hundreds will be attending the event.
I am sure that the delegates will enjoy the typical Pakistani hospitality, culture and art while exploring the historical city of Lahore. On behalf of the Punjab Government and myself, I wish a warm welcome to all the delegates and fervently hope they will enjoy their stay in the Punjab capital and carry lasting memories of their sojourn in the memorable city.
