University of the Punjab is a public sector university in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. Founded in 1882, its international influence has made it one of the most prestigious universities in South Asia, and the oldest and largest public university in the Punjab region and even in Pakistan. The University consists of six campuses, 19 faculties, 08 constituent colleges, and 138 departments, centers, and institutes. It grants affiliation to colleges to establish a formal collaborative relationship, allowing the university to oversee and regulate the colleges' academic programs and activities. This ensures quality control, standardization, and a unified framework for education within the university system.
The Affiliation and Registration Branches operate under the Office of the Registrar of the University. The Registrar serves as the administrative head of both branches.
According to the Statutes of the University,
applications are invited from institutions (both public and private) seeking
affiliation with the University. Colleges are required to submit their
applications on the prescribed proforma by 31st May each year. Upon receipt,
applications are scrutinized by the staff of the Affiliation Branch. After
verification and completion of the required documents as per affiliation
statutes, the case is submitted to the Vice-Chancellor, who may refer
it to the Affiliation Committee for inspection or visitation of the institution.
The Affiliation Committee, a statutory body of the University, conducts
inspections regarding availability of facilities, faculties and infrastructure
of institutions applying for affiliation and submits its recommendations
to the Vice-Chancellor/Syndicate for consideration. Subsequently, the
Office of the Registrar issues the office orders to the concerned colleges
accordingly.
The Registration Branch manages students’
academic records, including registration and enrolment for both in-campus
departments and affiliated colleges, and migration among affiliated college.
After a college is granted affiliation, the Branch issues an admission
schedule to affiliated colleges. In accordance with the schedule, colleges
admit students and submit their admission returns and enrolment lists
to the Registration Branch. The Branch staff then scrutinize and verify
the students’ eligibility and issue registration cards to eligible candidates.
Punjab University has several affiliated colleges across the province, including the Doctor of Pharmacy Colleges, Law Colleges, Commerce Colleges, and other colleges of various disciplines.
