![]() Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nasir, the senior-most serving Professor of Persian in Pakistan, is a distinguished scholar of Persian language, literature, and mysticism with more than three decades of teaching, research, and academic leadership. He obtained his MPhil and PhD from the University of Tehran, followed by dual postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge. A prolific researcher, Dr. Nasir has authored over 20 scholarly books and published more than 150 research papers in HEC-recognized and international journals. He has successfully supervised over 30 PhD dissertations, more than 50 MPhil theses, and numerous MA research projects, thereby significantly shaping the field of Persian studies in Pakistan. He has represented the country in over 100 international conferences and seminars across Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan, India, Bangladesh, Tajikistan, Central Asia, Europe, and the United Kingdom, earning wide recognition for his academic contributions. His excellence has been acknowledged through a Gold Medal from the University of the Punjab, the Best Teacher Award, and the prestigious Charles Wallace Fellowship at SOAS, University of London. In addition to his scholarly achievements, Dr. Nasir has played a leading institutional role at the University of the Punjab. He has been Chairman, Department of Persian, since 2019, and earlier served as Chairman, Ferdowsi Chair (2013–2019). He has been Convener, Board of Studies and DDPC since 2019, Member, Advanced Studies and Research Board (ASRB) since 2021, and elected Member of the PU Senate (2012). Currently, he is serving as an elected Member of the PU Syndicate (2024–2027), a position that reflects the University’s trust in his leadership and vision. He is also Member, Finance and Planning Committee, and has served as member or convener of several key academic and administrative committees of the University. Renowned for his scholarship, integrity, and institutional commitment, Dr. Nasir continues to play a pivotal role in advancing Persian studies and strengthening the academic excellence of the University of the Punjab. |
