Assistant Professor (TTS)
Dr. Zaeem Bin Babar
Dr. Zaeem Bin Babar is an accomplished academic professional currently serving as an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Energy and Environmental Engineering, University of the Punjab, Lahore since September 2023. Prior to this, he held a similar position at the Institute of Environmental Sciences and Engineering (IESE), School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (SCEE), National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad, Pakistan, for approximately 1.5 years.
Dr. Zaeem earned his B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology Lahore (UET), Pakistan, in 2009. Following graduation, he gained practical experience in process plant operations and quality maintenance at LOTTE Chemical Pakistan Private Limited in Karachi (formerly known as ICI Pakistan Private Limited).
Subsequently, he pursued his academic journey at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) in UAE, where he served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and completed his M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering in 2013. In 2014, he furthered his education by joining Kyungpook National University (KNU) in Daegu, South Korea, to obtain a Ph.D. in Environmental and Energy Engineering, which he successfully completed in 2018. Immediately after his Ph.D., Dr. Zaeem joined the Environmental Engineering Department at KNU as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow.
His diverse research interests encompass various aspects of environmental engineering, including:
Air Pollution and control (Atmospheric Aerosols, Particulate matter i.e., PM2.5, and SMOG), specifically related to their formation mechanisms, composition, and source apportionment.
Solid waste (food waste, plastics, oily sludge, etc.) to resources (adsorbents, bricks, etc.).
Chemical pretreatment of sustainable construction materials (i.e., bamboo) for enhanced physiochemical properties and green construction.
Water and wastewater treatment (heavy metal removal via adsorption and oil-water separation)
During his postdoctoral tenure, Dr. Zaeem actively contributed to an internationally collaborated project titled "Investigation of micro-dust formation in South East Asia." After joining the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 2020, he developed a keen interest in researching the primary and secondary sources of Winter SMOG formation in Pakistan over the past decade.
Dr. Zaeem Bin Babar has an impressive scholarly track record, boasting more than 30 international journal publications, conference papers, and book chapters. His commitment to advancing knowledge in environmental engineering and sustainable practices underscores his significant contributions to the academic and research community.
