Dr Irfana Bibi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Computing & Information Technology, University of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan. She received her PhD in Computer Science from Xidian University, Xi'an, China, in 2019, under the supervision of Prof. Fang Liu, affiliated with the Key Laboratory of Intelligent Perception and Image Understanding of the Ministry of Education and the International Research Center for Intelligent Perception and Computation, School of Artificial Intelligence, Xidian University. Her doctoral research focused on digital image processing and image segmentation.
Dr Bibi is currently involved in an international DANIDA-funded research project on enhancing groundwater resource management through remote sensing and ecohydrological nature-based solutions, involving research partners from Denmark, Ethiopia, and Pakistan. Her current research interests span computer vision, remote sensing and Geospatial AI, deep learning, medical image analysis, object detection, and scalable AI for Earth Observation, with particular emphasis on applications in sustainable agriculture, water-resource management, and environmental monitoring. She has published research in international peer-reviewed journals and EI-indexed conference proceedings in computer vision, image processing and deep learning. She is an HEC-approved PhD supervisor and currently supervises undergraduate, M.Phil., and PhD research in computer vision, remote sensing, and applied AI. She also serves as a reviewer for several international journals and has served as a Session Chair at Xplore'24, Xplore'25, and ICACS'26. She is a Member of IEEE and the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS), Computational Intelligence Society (CIS), Robotics and Automation Society (RAS), and IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE).
Dr Bibi has over 20 years of experience in higher education, complemented by academic leadership and an increasingly research-intensive profile. She has taught courses spanning Digital Image Processing, Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence, Graph Theory, Discrete Structures, and Object-Oriented Programming. She established and headed the BSCS program at the NUML Lahore Campus (2021–2023). At the University of the Punjab, she contributes to departmental academic and administrative activities through several committees, including the Departmental Discipline Council and departmental Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC), and serves as the departmental Project Office Coordinator, overseeing Final Year Projects (FYPs).
