The Metallurgy and Materials Engineering program was initiated in 1970 as an engineering degree program in Metallurgy and Materials Sciences under the Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology. In 2005, a separate Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering (DMME) was established as part of the newly constituted College of Engineering and Emerging Technologies (CEET) under the Faculty of Engineering & Technology. In 2020, the department was further upgraded to the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering (IMME) under the newly formed Faculty of Chemical and Materials Engineering.
Over more than five decades, IMME has remained committed to excellence in education, research, and service to the metallurgical and materials engineering industry of Pakistan. The Institute has produced highly qualified graduates who are serving globally in defense, public, and private sectors, contributing to the improvement of products, services, and engineering systems.
IMME graduates are employed across Pakistan as well as in the Middle East, Europe, Australia, and the United States. Many alumni play a vital role in strengthening the country’s defense capabilities through their services in strategic and defense-related organizations.
Currently, the Institute offers B.Sc. (Engineering), M.Sc. (Engineering), and PhD programs in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering. Recently, IMME has initiated three new MS programs, i.e., M.Sc. Computational Materials Engineering, M.Sc. Corrosion and Surface Engineering, and M.Phil. Material Science and Technology. The Institute is equipped with modern, state-of-the-art facilities for materials processing and characterization. The faculty at IMME possesses outstanding academic qualifications and professional expertise, ranking among the best in the country.
