Sawaid ABBAS is an Assistant Professor in the Centre for Geographical Information System at University of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan. Previously he has served as Research Assistant Professor and Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong. Dr Abbas has worked as a Remote Sensing Analyst at World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in Pakistan from 2008 to 2011, and visiting faculty member at University of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan during 2009 - 2011.Dr Abbas has been awarded PhD fellowship by the Research Grant Council of Hong Kong from 2013 to 2016. During his PhD, he has been working on Remote Sensing of Secondary Forest Succession in Hong Kong’s Country Parks. He primary research interests include integrative analysis of Remote Sensing and natural/urban Landscape Ecology, Urban Microclimate Simulation and Monitoring of vegetation response to extreme climate events (e.g., drought and frost). Currently, he is involved in research projects related to ‘Forest Cover Change Assessment’, ‘Association between climate change indicators and vegetation in Pearl River Delta Region’, ‘Smart City Tree Management’, ‘Acquisition of Hyperspectral Photograph characterizing phenology of Healthy / Un Healthy Trees along the Highways in Hong Kong’, and ‘urban microclimate simulation’. |
